Employees of New Caledonia's public broadcaster march against threats

Employees of New Caledonia's public broadcaster, RFO, marched yesterday to the French high commission in Noumea to protest against the blockades and threats they endure trying to their job.

A small group of employees of the mainly Kanak union have been on an intermittent strike for over a month in protest at the sacking of a Kanak technician, Rock Haocas.

Their action has disrupted broadcasting and prompted the RFO management to have some work done off site because of the abuse outside the company's headquarters.

The union backing the sacked technician wants him re-instated within French television while non-striking employees demand that the state ensure that they can do their job.
