Kiribati's foreign ministry will submit a report on the fate of three Chinese officials occupying the former embassy premises in Bairiki.

China closed the embassy in 2003 after Kiribati set up diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

The foreign affairs secretary, Taam Biriob, says they will submit a report in June - a deadline given by government to complete the investigations.

He has told Radio Kiribati that they acted on government's directives after parliament unanimously passed a motion last year asking the government of Anote Tong to do something about the continued presence of the Chinese officials.

The motion was tabled by government MPs accusing the Chinese of spying on the government and being a nuisance - allegations dismissed by the Chinese officials.
