Fiji tourism not affected by current polls

The chief executive of the Fiji Visitors Bureau says tourism is not likely to be affected by the general election currently under way in the country.

Bill Gavoka says May is normally a slow month for the industry.

But Mr Gavoka says this year it has been compounded by the introduction of the Hotel Turnover Tax.

He says the implementation date of the new tax has been finalised and Fiji is being marketed overseas with certainty in terms of pricing.

549,000 tourists visited Fiji last year.
