Fourth motion of no-confidence in Vanuatu's PM lodged with speaker

12:39 pm on 11 May 2006

Vanuatu's prime minister is likely to face the fourth motion of no-confidence in his leadership after it was lodged with the Speaker of parliament.

The deputy leader of opposition, Moana Carcasses, has told the Daily Post newspaper that the motion has the support of 29 members of the 52-seat parliament.

The Greens leader says 11 MPs from the government side, including one minister, are prepared to vote against the prime minister, Ham Lini.

While the speaker of parliament has 24 hours to examine the motion before making a public declaration whether it is in order, Mr Carcasses says he has no doubt it is fine.

The last motion was withdrawn by the leader of opposition after it became clear they did not have the numbers to topple Mr Lini.
