A cabinet reshuffle takes place in Tonga

Tonga's Prime Minister, Feleti Sevele, has announced the appointment of three new ministers and a reshuffle in Ministerial portfolios.

The new appointments include Tonga's first ever female Minister.

She is Malia Viviena Numia Afeaki Taumoepeau, the new Attorney General and Minister for Justice.

Joining her in cabinet are Paul Karalus, who becomes the new Minister for Civil Aviation, Marine and Ports, and Fineasi Funaki who will be the new Tourism minister.

Ministers whose portfolios have been re-shuffled include: Hon. Tuita, former Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries who becomes Minister of Lands Survey, natural Resources and Environment.

The former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Siaosi Taimani 'Aho, is now the Minister of Police, Prisons and Fire Services.

Tu'ivakano is now the Minister of Training, Employment, Youth and Sports, and the former Minister of Police, Prison and Fire Services, Nuku, is now Minister of Works.

The former deputy Prime Minister, Cecil Cocker, has been appointed Tonga's diplomatic representative to the United Sates while Former Minister of Lands Survey and Natural Resources Fielakepa has been appointed Lord Chamberlain.

The Prime Minister, Dr Sevele, says the changes are part of the ongoing Public Sector Reform Programme which started in 2002.
