The American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono is pursuing further talks with Tokelau over shipping and trade.

He says the territory has assets that can support such a venture, and there are mutual benefits.

Tokelau wants to buy fuel and American made goods from Pago Pago and for the government vessel MV Sili to travel to Tokelau on its way to Swains Island.

Governor Togiola said he plans to travel to Swains shortly to review the possibility of a landing strip there and a wharf, before visiting Tokelau to continue talks.
