A major drop in hotel occupancy figures in Northern Marianas

The Northern Marianas hotel industry has had its lowest hotel occupancy figures this year, during the month of April.

The drop is due to Japan Airlines pulling out last October.

The HANMI chairwoman says the full effects of the pullout is being felt now.

The Saipan Tribune reports historically the poor performance of visitor arrival numbers in April has also contributed to the low hotel occupancy rates.

April recorded 12 percent lower than the same period last year, while visitor arrivals plummeted 17 percent.
