McDonald's maintains project for American Samoa's Utulei beach

An official with McDonald's American Samoa says there's no truth to reports circulating in the territory that they have given up on efforts to build on Utulei Beach.

The reports which surfaced last week said that McDonald's headquarters in the United States have pulled the Utulei Beach restaurant because it's generating to much negative publicity.

But the vice President for Sales and Marketing in Pago Pago, Larry Sanitoa, has dismissed the reports as false.

He says the local McDonald's is still pursuing a land use permit to build a restaurant on Utulei Beach.

And he says they met Thursday's deadline for submitting information required by the Project Notification and Review System Board.
