Kiribati scholarship probe shifts focus to Fiji

3:49 pm on 6 June 2006

The commission of inquiry into the controversial selection of Kiribati scholarship students will move to Fiji at the end of the week.

The probe, headed by Tuvaluan Tito Isala, will extend to interviewing officials at the Suva campus of the University of the South Pacific.

The investigation was called after it became known that 18 Kiribati scholarship students were chosen for degree courses at the USP although they had failed the relevant tests.

At the same, those students who passed the tests were overlooked.
