Arrival of victorious Fiji Sevens team sparks celebrations

Huge crowds gathered at Fiji's Nadi International Airport to welcome back the country's victorious national sevens rugby team.

The Waisele Serevi led team won the London Sevens Tournament and, for the first time in seven years, came top of the IRB sevens series.

Radio Legend reports that the Fiji cabinet has approved the payment of 93,000 US dollars to the 7s team for winning the IRB series and promoting the country internationally.

The cabinet has also set aside 138,000 US dollars to be spent on rugby victory celebrations to be held on Monday of next week which is a public holiday.

In addition, the Fiji Rugby Union will also be making bonus and normal payments and allowances as well as salaries to contracted players amounting to large sum of money.

Towns, villages and tourist resorts along the route from Nadi to Suva are making preparations to greet and honour the team as they travel to the capital tomorrow.
