The Fiji government has approved just over 143 thousand US dollars for cash bonuses for the players in the rugby union sevens side that won the International Rugby Boards world series, and for official celebrations in Suva next Monday.

The breakdown will see 92 thousand dollars shared among the players and officials, with just over 40-thousand going towards next week's celebrations.

Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says the celebration money is well spent because everyone will benefit.

"It'll be a fun day, a joyous day, the program is tailored to fit that occasion and its just a day for everyone to enjoy ourselves and thank the players for the tremendous achievements."

Meanwhile, nearly eight thousand people were at Nadi International airport to welcome their heroes last night.

A tired looking side led by their coach - Waisale Serevi said they were happy to see the people of Fiji unite to welcome them home.

But the players could be in for a long trip home, after they won the World Cup it took the motorcade nearly 18 hours to travel from Nadi to the capital Suva, a journey that normally takes three hours.
