Speaker of the Cook Islands Parliament may face a vote of no confidence

9:59 am on 15 June 2006

The Speaker of the Cook Islands Parliament, Norman George may face a vote of no confidence tomorrow when Parliament sits for the first time in eight months.

This comes after last week's by-election for the Atiu seat which Mr George won two years after losing it in the country's general election.

Mr George has retaken the seat as an independent.

He says as Speaker of Parliament he will have to look at procedural matters to make sure that the motion can be introduced without notice.

And, he says he will have to look at all the implications of the procedure.

"I can't tell you my decision now. But I can tell you I will research it carefully and way it up carefully, using my legal experiences, and I will come to a conclusion appropriately."

The Speaker of the Cook Islands Parliament, and MP for Atiu, Norman George.
