Energy prices in Marshall Islands will continue to increase

The Marshalls Energy Company says energy prices in the Marshalls Islands will continue to increase in the coming months.

The company has announced its fourth electricity price rise for this year, with residential and business energy rates expected to go up two cents from July the 1st.

The projects manager of the Marshalls Energy Company, Steve Wakefield, says rising world prices for diesel fuel are responsible for the price hike.

"The increase in prices is solely reflected by the imported price of diesel fuel which we use in our power stations."

The company says its sole diesel source, Singapore, has increased prices over the last two years, forcing the company to increase its electricity prices.
