American Samoa's governor disappointed over university fee hikes

American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono says he is disappointed with the University of Hawaii Board of Regent's decision to increase tuition fees for Pacific students by 150 percent.

During his testimony before the board last week in Honolulu, the governor appealed to the members to maintain the current arrangement.

He said that the existing structure in fees is an important link for all Pacific students to attend the University of Hawaii at a reasonable cost.

Togiola says the board's action in approving the increase is a bitter pill to swallow for the Territory's UH-bound students.
