Phone calls between American Samoa and the US now domestic not international

The US Federal Telecommunications Commission has ruled that phone calls between American Samoa and the United States will now be treated as domestic rather than international calls.

The ruling says that all U.S. long distance carriers must apply the same long distance interstate rates for calls by May 2007.

Governor Togiola Tulafono said some carriers have voluntarily integrated their domestic rates to include American Samoa, but many did not.

The ruling means all US long distance carriers must now apply the same domestic rates for calls from the mainland to American Samoa.
