Inaugural French festival in the Pacific to be held in Vanuatu

12:08 pm on 23 June 2006

The French-speaking communities in the Pacific will hold their inaugural regional festival in Vanuatu in September.

The announcement was made in Paris by a new group launched by seven people from New Caledonia.

Its president, Jean-Claude Briault, says the week-long event in Vanuatu will include theatre, a book fair, concerts and the unveiling of a monument to honour the victims of the two World Wars.

The French festivals are to be held in Vanuatu every other year.

Next year, it is scheduled to take place in Australia and in 2009 in New Zealand.
