Unsuccessful Samoan election candidate accuses new MP of vested interests

An unsuccessful Human Rights Protection Party election candidate in Samoa has accused a first time government MP of putting his business interests and his Asian background ahead of those who voted for him.

The defeated candidate's accusations come after the first parliament session where MP Vaeolenofoafia Tapasu Leung Wai had suggested to government that Asian workers be allowed to enter the country to help re-develop agriculture.

Unsuccessful candidate, Anama-aitu Pasikale, says the MP who is Associate Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade should have spared some thoughts first for the electors and voters rather than his Asian interests.

Anama-aitu says their MP's comments in parliament were insulting as many people in the constituency are contributing fully to develop agriculture for the benefit of the local economy.
