A lawmaker from American Samoa's Swains island, Alexander Jennings, says he hopes hearings by the Future Political Status Study Commission will help bring about improvements for Swains Island.

Mr Jennings intends to testify at the commission hearings and put the spotlight on the needs of his island.

"We want to get 40,000 for transportation and so forth - just some way that we can improve services for Swains Island: hospitals and schools and things like that. And if this is the avenue to do it then I would definitely be very interested in it."
