The Nasinu Branch of the Fiji Labour Party has suspended their MP, party vice president and cabinet minister, Krishna Datt.
Fiji TV reports the branch has also demanded that Mr Datt be expelled from the party which he helped found in 1985.
The decision was handed in a letter to Mr Datt by the Nasinu branch president, Prem Chand, who says members had petitioned for action against Mr Datt.
Mr Chand has accused Mr Datt of undermining the party leadership, orchestrating a campaign against Mahendra Chaudhry and breaching the FLP constitution.
Mr Chand claims Mr Datt, who has championed the survival of the multiparty cabinet as his top priority, has brought disrepute to the Labour Party.
The FLP lawyer, Rajendra Chaudhry, who is the son of Mahendra Chaudhry, says the Nasinu branch is well within its rights to take action as the party constitution provides for that.
Rajendra Chaudhry says the party constitution also provides for the national council to consider expulsion for reasons of discipline.
