8:51 am on 18 July 2006

The Warden of American Samoa's Tafuna Correctional Facility, Saite Moliga, has confirmed that a prison guard has been relieved of his duties and is being investigated for selling drugs at the prison

Sources in the Department of Public Safety say agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations conducted a body search of an officer and questioned him at length last week.

FBI special agent Mark Granger says no drugs were found on the guard but he has not returned to work since being questioned.

Granger would not give any other information saying it is FBI policy not to comment on a continuing investigation.

Local sources say the officer is cooperating with the FBI giving names of DPS personnel alleged to be taking marijuana and crystal metha mphetamine into the prison and selling the drugs to inmates.
