9:10 am on 19 July 2006

The Investment Division in Solomon Islands has so far issued 14 business certificates under the new Foreign Investment Act, which came into force in June.

The Solomon Star reports the Director of Investment Division, Derick Aihari says of the 14 certificates issued so far, 11 are for new investors.

He says the other three are for existing investors who are renewing their investment.

Mr Aihari says the investors are investing in wholesale and retail businesses and technology.

He says they have also received enquiries from potential investors who want to invest in the country.

The latest business certificate was issued last Friday to Australian investor Wendel Salmon.

Mr Salmon, who has entered into a joint venture with a local, says he's investing in wholesale and retail business in the country.
