Vanuatu commodities boss sacked

3:05 pm on 20 July 2006

The Vanuatu Commodities Marketing Board has decided to sack the general manager of the company, Georgy Carlo.

No reason has been given for the dismissal but reports say Mr Carlo, who is currently in New Caledonia, may challenge the decision.

According to sources, a key issue has been the way Mr Carlo handled a row over kava exports to New Caledonia.

They also say it could be linked to a shipping arrangement to ferry tons of copra to Luganville without settling the sea freight costs.
