Samoa Opposition says government is hiding publicly funded airline capital injection

Samoa's down-sized Polynesian Airlines has got another capital injection of over 1 million US Dollars for the current financial year.

The grant had already been approved before parliament recently passed the new budget.

But the Opposition Leader, Le Mamea Ropati, said the Minister of Finance didn't reveal the airline's share of public funds in his budget address.

Le Mamea says it is as if the government wanted to hide the capital injection for the airline.

The Opposition leader has pointed out that previous HRPP governments had assured the country that public monies allocated for the airline would be a thing of the past.

Those assurances were widely reported before Polynesian Airlines signed a joint venture with Australia's Virgin Blue to carry out an international flights service from Samoa to New Zealand and Australia.

The over 1 million US Dollars for the downsized airline, now dealing with domestic flights, was seen by the Opposition on government's draft budget estimates.
