Taiwan's aid program to the Marshall Islands has been fast forwarded in

the wake of a parliamentary group's visit to Beijing last month.

Taiwan is moving quickly to implement a 3 million US dollar programme to provide

solar equipment to hundreds of homes on remote islands that have no

electricity.

It is also planning a series of follow up visits by medical team

following a successful mission by a group of doctors and nurses last month from Taipei Medical University Wan Fang Hospital.

Taiwan has also provided an 800 thousand US dollar micro-finance loan program that is due to start next month.

This week it injected more than 300 thousand dollars for local development projects this week, the latest in an expanding annual aid programme that is now valued at about 14 million US dollars.

Ambassador Lien-gene Chen, who is based in Majuro, said both the medical mission and the micro loan program are firsts for Taiwan in its relations with six Pacific island nations.
