A newspaper in Tahiti reports that a French male nurse has confessed to having sexually abused more than 40 children on the French Polynesian atoll of Hao.
The Depeche de Tahiti says the 48-year-old man was arrested in France in May for allegedly raping 41 children during his posting on Hao from 1993 to 1996.
The abuse was discovered when his son-in-law found video cassettes of the man abusing boys and girls who appeared to be asleep.
The report says as an anaesthetic nurse he had access to medication to subdue the children.
