A former Fiji government senator who is serving a life sentence for inciting the November 2000 mutiny has been ordered to pay a fine of 300-US dollars or face another one month in jail.
Radio Legend reports that Ratu Inoke Takiveikata had pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of liquor, offences which he committed before he was jailed for life.
Takiveikata, who is the paramount chief of Naitasiri province, was driving his vehicle late on a Saturday night when it veered off the road, crashed over the sea wall and plunged into Suva harbour.
He was saved from drowning by two youths who were nearby and witnessed the accident.
After his case, Takiveikata was returned to Suva Prison.
