10:39 am on 31 July 2006

Fiji police are baffled by a series of needle attacks on the streets of Suva on Saturday afternoon.

Four young women are reported to have forcibly injected two teenagers near the Suva bus station with a colourless substance suspected to be drugs.

A similar attack took place on a young woman near the Village Six cinemas.

The three victims felt weak afterwards and police rushed them to hospital where they are under observation.

Police and medical authorities are working together to find out what substance may have been injected.

Police have questioned the four attackers and released them pending the results of the hospital tests.
