A week-long meeting of laboratory health professionals on surveillance techniques for communicable diseases in the region, will open today in Noumea.

It will discuss lab testing and specimen procedures that identify and control epidemic diseases, such as dengue, influenza and HIV.

It will also focus on planning further developments of the network, such as pandemic influenza preparedness.
