Micronesia Challenge to be discussed in Palau

6:20 pm on 8 August 2006

Leaders from Micronesia are planning to meet in Palau in December to discuss how to best implement the Micronesia Challenge.

The regional challenge aims to conserve at least 30 percent of marine and 20 percent of forest resources across Micronesia by 2020.

The Saipan Tribune reports the Northern Marianas, Guam, Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia are participants in the challenge.

The five member states need to organise a regional body to coordinate the challenge, review existing conservation strategies and establish a process of review on how the challenge is implemented.
