The pathologist who examined Australian Janelle Patton's body after her murder on Norfolk Island has told a court that 35 separate injuries contributed to her death.

Forensic pathologist Dr Allan Cala conducted the post mortem examination on the 29-year-old's body three days after she was killed on in March 2002.

Glenn McNeill, a 28-year-old chef from New Zealand, has been charged with murder and is facing a committal hearing in the Norfolk Island Magistrates Court.

Dr Cala told the hearing Ms Patton suffered multiple injuries, the most serious of which was a stab wound to the chest.

Meanwhile, a tourist who discovered Ms Patton's body told the court that the police didn't believe her when she reported the discovery.

New Zealand flight attendant Helen Opie said she and her partner Mark De La Roche found the body partially wrapped in a sheet of black plastic at the Cockpit Waterfall Reserve.
