PNG police probes killing of Indonesian fisherman

Police in Papua New Guinea are investigating the shooting incident at the border with Indonesia which left one fisherman dead.

Two others were injured when they were confronted by PNG security forces.

The newspaper, The National, says a joint police and defence force surveillance team patrolling the sea border intercepted the fishermen off the coast near Mushu village.

The Indonesian Consul in Vanimo has expressed regret at the death, saying it was the first Indonesian civilian to die at the hands of the PNG security forces.
