9:45 am on 11 August 2006

A Norfolk Island magistrate is expected to decide today whether Glen McNeill will stand trial for the murder of Janelle Patton..

Ms Patton disappeared on March 31, 2002, while taking a walk on the island.

The Sydney woman's body, with more than 60 separate injuries, was found dumped in a reserve more than seven hours later.

A committal hearing for McNeill, a 28-year-old New Zealand chef, began in the Norfolk Island Magistrates Court on Monday.

McNeill was arrested in February this year in his home town of Nelson, on New Zealand's south island, and charged with Ms Patton's murder.

An annoucement from the court is expected later today.
