30 candidates have so far been confirmed by American Samoa's Election Office for the November 2006 general election.

Candidates have until September 1st, to file the necessary application and petition for this year's election, when voters will elect members of the local House and the Delegate to the U.S. Congress.

Deputy election officer, Filiva'a Mageo said that although 68 petitions have been picked up, including three for the congressional race, only 30 petitions have been verified.

Except for Rep. Muavaefa'atasi Ae Ae Jr., all 19 incumbents of the local House have picked up the necessary election petitions but only a few have filed the necessary papers.

Muavaefa'atasi's supporters have said that the lawmaker plans to seek the Delegate seat, but no official announcement has yet been made.

Congressman Faleomavaega Eni and former candidate Aumua Amata Coleman have already announced that they will contest the congressional race.
