Solomon's Prime Minister starts legal action against Attorney General

6:09 am on 21 August 2006

The Solomon's Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare says his Government has initiated legal proceedings to gain clarification over actions taken by the Attorney General against himself and Government.

A conflict has developed between the Prime Minister and the Attorney General over the terms of reference for a Commission of Inquiry into the riots in Honiara earlier this year.

The Prime Minister says he never regarded the exchange of conflicting opinions between himself and the Attorney General as a war of words.

The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation says Mr Sogavare sees the move as an effort to dissuade the Government from setting up a robust Commission of Inquiry into the riots on behalf of the public.
