The King of Tonga remains in an Auckland Hospital and is comfortable according to a spokesman for the Royal Household.

The spokesman says King Taufa'ahau Tupou the fourth is more alert but for the moment his family remains at his side.

Alarm was created a week ago when the Tongan Prime Minister went on Tongan radio and television asking the country to pray for the King who was ailing.

His daughter Princess Pilolevu is expected to represent the Tongan Government at tomorrow's swearing-in of the new New Zealand Governor General.
