American Samoa's Inter Island Air seeks clearance for flights to Savaii

American Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono has sought the assistance of Samoa's Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele to allow local airline Inter Island Air to operate flights to Savaii.

However, Samoa Government officials say approval is unlikely because of two reasons: Inter Island is still operating as an on demand charter airline and it wants to fly to Savaii from Faleolo Airport.

Samoa has given Inter Island Air only up to October to operate flights between Pago Pago and Faleolo and has indicated that no extension would be given unless the company obtains FAA certification as a scheduled carrier.

At present Inter Island operates an on demand service.
