Fiji Labour Party now to discipline seven senior members

The Fiji Labour Party's national council has decided to increase the number of senior members to be disciplined from five to seven.

The two additional members are the former Vuda Open MP, Vijay Singh, and the Vuda branch president, Prem Chand, who both last month called for disciplinary action against the party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, and its president, Jokapeci Koroi.

Details of the charges against the two or against cabinet ministers Krishna Datt and Poseci Bune, MPs Felix Anthony and Agni Deo Singh, and former senator Dr Atu Emberson-Bain have not been disclosed.

After the national council meeting in Nadi on Saturday the FLP's assistant general secretary, Lekh Ram Vyashnoi, said they will be given 21 days to prepare their defence either in person or through their lawyers.

But one of those facing charges, Felix Anthony, says the national council meeting was in contempt of a High Court order and would be challenged in court.
