Polynesian Airlines welcomes American Samoa travel relaxation

Polynesian Airlines chief executive officer Taua Fatu Tielu has welcomed an announcement by the American Samoa Governor that travel restrictions for citizens of Samoa would be relaxed.

Taua said in response to the governor's proposal for guest worker permits and unrestricted access for business travellers the move will encourage people to fly between the two Samoas once again.

Taua conceded that competition from two other airlines had also contributed to Polynesian's passenger decline.

The Samoa carrier recorded about 9,000 passengers in June and July this year compared to about 14,000 for the same two months last year.
