South Africa has opened a high commission in Fiji which will also be the country's diplomatic link with Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and other regional countries.

The new high commissioner, Dr Vincent Zulu, says the office will be fully operational by the end of next month.

Dr Zulu says South Africa and Fiji have already co-operated at the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the ACP group.

He says he looks forward to further co-operation in fields such as trade, information technology, youth development and sports.
