Imprisoned former Samoa cabinet ministers seek parole at weekends

Two former Samoan cabinet ministers serving life in prison for murder are seeking week-end parole to visit their families.

The former ministers, Le'afa Vitale and Toi Aukuso Cain, raised the matter with new Police Minister and former speaker, Tole'afoa Apulu Fa'afisi, when he visited Tafa'igata prison recently.

Tole'afoa says he's aware of the seriousness of his colleague's crime in which the late minister of Public Works was assassinated in 1999, but says he will look into their request.

Le'afa and Toi have served seven years of their life sentences.
