French Polynesia discusses French fund delay

1:29 pm on 31 August 2006

The French Polynesian official representing the territory's interests in Paris has met French officials to discuss the delay in the French payment of education funds.

The Tahitipresse news agency says Thierry Teai's meetings follow representations by several French Polynesian ministers, including President Oscar Temaru who raised the matter with the French overseas territories minister, Francois Baroin.

The latest Paris talks have yielded no commitment on the disbursement of 35 million US dollars sought by French Polynesia as part of an infrastructure programme.

Mr Teai says there has also been a delay in transfer of promised health care funds from France.
