3:37 pm on 11 September 2006

On the fifth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, the American ambassador in Suva has reminded Fiji that it needs to be on its toes as no country is safe from such atrocities.

The Daily Post reports that Larry Dinger has also commended Fiji's efforts to combat terrorism.

Mr Dinger says Fiji has contributed enormously in the fight against terrorism by providing men and women for peacekeeping duties,

He says Fiji police and the military have done a lot to make the country as inhospitable as possible to terrorist activities, but no country is entirely safe.

Mr Dinger says both the United States and Fiji are working harder at removing the mindset of those who want to stage such dreadful events.

He says the Pacific region has been working on devising says to stop the avenues to orchestrate another September 11 through regional efforts to fight money laundering which is usually used to finance such attacks.
