Winner of Samoa Beauty Pageant contested

The result of last weekend's Samoa Beauty Pageant is being contested by the family of the young woman representing the Samoan community in New Zealand.

The contestant's mother, Iuni Sapolu, who is a lawyer, has threatened legal action against the pageant committee, after she discovered that the winner, a seventeen year old student, was under age.

The pageant's rules state that all contestants must be eighteen years old on the first of September.

However this year's winner will not reach that age until the 29th of this month.

Iuni Sapolu has accused the committee of aiding and abetting and telling a huge lie by declaring the student the winner.
