Solomon Telekom seeks to protect its operation rights

9:10 am on 22 September 2006

Solomon Telekom has instructed a Honiara law firm to act on its behalf to protect its rights under the 15 years exclusive licence granted by the government in 2003.

Its General Manager, Martyn Robinson has notified the Telecommunications Authority of the move in a letter obtained by the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation.

He says Sol-Law is acting for the company on matters concerning any possible amendments to Telekom's licence or the granting of any licence contrary to Solomon Telekom's exclusive rights.

The SIBC says the Department of Communication is proposing to open up the telecommunications sector to competition.
