Wallis and Futuna likely to send patients needing treatment to NZ instead of Australia

Residents from Wallis and Futuna needing medical treatment overseas are likely to be sent to New Zealand rather than Australia.

The territorial council has decided it would be more economical to shift referrals to New Zealand whenever possible because medical care was of similar quality.

Until now, Australia was the preferred destination for medical evacuations.

Another factor was that New Zealand is closer to Wallis and Futuna than Australia.
