Solomon Islands newly appointed attorney general, Julian Moti, has taken the steps to launch a defamation case.
The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation says Pacific Lawyers acting on Mr Moti's behalf have named the Solomon Star newspaper, the opposition leader, Fred Fono, the speaker of the national parliament and Honiara lawyer, John Keniapisia, as defendants.
The law firm says the defendants will be sued for making false and highly defamatory statements about Mr Moti.
Pacific lawyers demands that they immediately withdraw their statements, apologise to Mr Moti, and pay damages.
They say Mr Moti is shocked by the statements about his private and public life, which he regards as defamatory.
Mr Moti is an Australian citizen who faced rape charges in Vanuatu that were eventually dismissed.
