5:51 am on 2 October 2006

American Samoa's legislature has approved the budget for the fiscal year 2007 totalling 268 million US dollars.

The budget has been sent to the Governor.

Last year's budget saw the Governor line item veto all changes made by

the Fono.

The 2007 fiscal year begins on October 1, local time, and the budget document has to be signed before midnight

It's doubtful the Governor will be back in time from a trade fair in Hong Kong to sign the bill into law.

The Attorney general, Sialega Malaetasi Togafau, is the acting Governor and he is understood to have received instructions from the governor over what to do.
