Power was turned off on Samoa's big island of Savaii for 11 hours yesterday to conduct what the Electric Power Corporation (EPC) said was "urgent repair work."
EPC said that the repair work was aimed at stopping unplanned power outages from occurring.
The power was turned off between 7am and 6pm.
Unscheduled power outages occur far more often in Savaii than in Upolu Island.
MPs in Savaii have complained of household appliances getting ruined as a result
One of them, Tuilo'a Anitele'a, complained earlier this year that on one Saturday the power in their electorate went off without notice during the day and three times in the night.
Minister for EPC, Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveau, admitted that the unscheduled outages did ruin appliances.
He blamed the outages on the age of the generators providing electricity in Savai'i.
