There are fears among residents of Port Vila in Vanuatu of being injected with a syringe filled with AIDS contaminated blood.

The Daily Post reports that police have confirmed the arrest of a young woman with a syringe after she allegedly tried to stab another woman with it.

The deputy police commissioner, Arthur Caulton, says both the syringe and alleged victim were tested at Vila Central Hospital.

The results will be made known to the immediate family of the girl.

Mr Caulton described it as an isolated case and he says residents of Port Vila should go about their lives without any fear of being attacked.
