Illegal imports hit PNG businesses

Papua New Guinea Manufacturers are calling on the government to stop the illegal importing of counterfeit goods, or risk losing local businesses which are suffering major losses because of the practise.

The president of PNG's Manufacturers Council, Wayne Golding, told the Post Courier newspaper that there had been a substantial rise in counterfeit goods and parallel imports over the last two years.

He said the problem is growing because there is no monitoring or legislation in place to deal with it.
